Hello Lisa, I am in the process of finishing up your book, and I just wanted to say how much it has touched me. My childhood was much like yours, only it was my grandfather. I only wish I had your resolve to forgive it all. I have adopted 4 furbabies all big dogs and each with their own terrible beginnings. I tried a trainer several years ago that convinced me that the pinch collar was the best tool. I should have listened to my gut & ran, luckily the training went so well th epinch collar was short lived. And then he wanted to use the shock collar on my other one. He kept her for a week training her, but after 3 days of her not eating I went to get her each night after that. He told me “Just leave her, I will break her. She will eventually eat” I know my dog well enough, she would have rather died of starvation than stay there… and sadly this man is a certified trainer. Goes to all the big conventions etc.. very scary to me that there are people that still believe in this form of horrible training. Thank you for sharing your story and I only wish we lived closer so I could benefit from your training and my ‘kids’. With deepest thanks from Texas!
